Pythia. A few weeks back I had decided to order a bronze statue, just like the one you can see in the picture, for an altar I am planning to build in honor of Pythia. However, who is this Pythia? Well historically, Pythia was the title of the oracle priestess of Delphi- Throughout the years there have been may Pythias or Pythiai-There were several, well many women who held this title and some we know their names and countless others that we do not know their names. So recently I begun thinking of honoring Pythia as an embodiment of all the Pythiai that served as Priestess and Oracle of Apollo and Dionysus at Delphi-The more I toyed with this embodiment concept the more my thinking began to shift to Pythia the many with the voice of one being part of the ritual praises of Pythia. Like this I am giving homage to the fact that there were many and yet from the most part their title has survived down to us over the centuries. In away, I guess it would be like honoring a saint or even a hero.
In modern recon circles, people have forgotten to honor Pythia. I mean these oracles and priestess were important to the Graeco Roman World. Colonies were founded upon the words of Pythia. And what we forget? As much as yes the gods are very important, but we can't forget those that held importance-It would be like not honouring our heros in this modern age. Which saddens me-
I have even been, recently gathering some of the words of Pythia that have survived down through the ages-and have begun compiling them into what i have been calling the Fragments of Pythia-
However, in honoring Pythia I see that she was a link between the gods and humanity, that isn't to say that people didn't interact or the gods didn't make themselves known to the ancients-just that for some she was the voice of god- That's powerful stuff if you ask me. Something that we can't forget-maybe we should ask Pythia to be our connection to the gods our bridge-or our role model in our daily endeavors to hear the voice to the gods-or better yet; our Guide.
Sometimes as we travel in the world, we lose site of the gods, sometimes we feel like we are all alone in this-but we can commune with the gods-and maybe sometimes we need alil help to get ourselves in tune, maybe we could ask Pythia to be our 'spirit' guide and help us open and commune with the Divine.
To me, sometimes it's important to realize that while I'm just a human being walking along this path-that there were some that were just as human and they did it-granted she was chosen, but who is to say that each and everyone of us isn't also chosen?
But all said and done-I have included Pythia into my personal practice and what ever inspirations and thoughts I will include here-

In my book, anyone who honors the Delphic Oracle as you do here, has a blog worth following. Count me in!
